Beach It Easy

You’ve heard the saying referring to situations as “a day at the beach,” but packing and prepping for your day on sandy shores may feel more like a morning of chores. However, it doesn’t have to feel that way. With a little preparation, your day at the beach can be full of rest and relaxation.

Leaving beach gear – including chairs, tents and toys – on the beach is prohibited in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. These tips will help you plan a hassle-free beach vacation.

  • Shade.

Opt for large umbrellas stored in bags with handles rather than a large canopy tent. If you have a large group, bring several umbrellas. Not only are they easier to carry, but they’re also easier to erect and to dismantle at the end of the day.

  • Beach Chairs.

Since you’ll be taking your chairs with you at the end of the day, consider chairs with a backpack component. The straps make them easy to carry to and from the beach. Beach blankets, sheets and towels are also great options and don’t take up a lot of space in your luggage when packing. Inflatable lounge chairs and ground hammocks are a great option, as well

  • Coolers.

If you’re planning a full day on the beach, use a cooler with large wheels. To cut down on ice or ice packs, freeze as much food or drinks as possible, including water, stick yogurt and even grapes.

  • Consumables.

Sustainable, insulated drinkware is a great, green option for spending time on the beach. Many of these will keep your ice frozen all day and come in various sizes, including canteens. If you do bring disposable water bottles, be sure to put them in the recycling bins located at the end of most boardwalks in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

  • Wagons.

Wagons with large, sand-ready wheels are a smart choice for planning your haul. Collapsible versions make transporting the wagon easy without taking up a lot of space. There are even options with compartments made of mesh fabric, perfect for allowing wet toys to dry or sand to escape.

With these simple tips, your Gulf Shores and Orange Beach vacation truly can be just “a day at the beach.”
