picture of baby on beachSummer days at the beach are so much fun! The kids are building sandcastles and everyone is playing in the surf. A cooler with juice boxes, cans of soft drinks and bottled water is by your chairs. Life just doesn’t get better than this.

But did you bring sun protection?

With the breeze coming off the Gulf of Mexico, you may not realize how intense the Alabama Gulf Coast sun can be.

Make sure you have access to shade. Beach umbrellas are easy to carry and store, and can be shifted easily as the sun crosses the sky.

Slather on the sunscreen several times a day. A painful sunburn can make for a miserable vacation. Also pack hats as well as lightweight, long-sleeve shirts for everyone.

In addition to taking care of you and yours, think about how to protect the environment and Leave Only FootprintsEverything you took to the beach must be taken back with you daily. Put your trash in a bag and dispose of it properly. The recyclable items can go in the recycle bins located around public beaches.

As you leave, look back and make sure all you left behind was your footprints.
