National Recycling Day, also known as America Recycles Day, is a Keep America Beautiful national initiative. November 15 is dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.
Below are 10 ideas to help you and your family get started on your clean-environment efforts!
- Set up recycling stations at home, work and school. Provide easily identifiable sorting bins for plastics, aluminum, glass and paper.
- Write a promise to the planet for how you will reduce, reuse or recycle.
- Upcycle one of the most discarded objects: plastic bottles. Cut water bottles in half (feel free to get creative with how you trim around the top), then paint and decorate, and you’ll have flower pots perfect for succulents, violets and more!
- Share a post on social media with #BeRecycled on November 15 to raise awareness of the importance of recycling.
- Take the Be Recycled Pledge and commit to reduce, reuse, recycle and buy recycled.
- Drop off a special treat for the people at your local recycling center who work every day to make our planet better.
- Plant a tree or a bush to help improve our environment.
- Talk to your family about the importance of recycling, reducing and reusing. Education is key, especially for our youth!
- Set up a compost bin to help conserve landfill space. Plus, it saves water by helping the soil hold moisture and reduce water runoff.
- Go outside and enjoy the day! Soak up the sunshine and enjoy the clean beauty of nature.
Reduce, reuse, recycle. One person can make a huge difference, and you can start on November 15!
