Kids playing with sand on the beach Description automatically generated

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are a favorite destination for many families. The sugar-white sand, warm gulf waters and family-friendly atmosphere attract more than 5 million visitors each year. That’s a lot of wear and tear on our beaches! Protecting the natural beauty and keeping our beaches clean and inviting is what the Leave Only Footprints program is all about.

Leave Only Footprints is based on the Leave No Trace principles. Following these guidelines keeps our beaches clean and our visitors and wildlife safe. It also paves the way for future generations to enjoy the same pristine coastline we have today.

It’s important that everyone in your family is familiar with the rules and regulations to follow when you visit our beaches:

  • All items must be removed from the beaches each evening.
  • Tents (no larger than 12’x12′) are allowed only in designated areas.
  • Stay off the dunes. Use boardwalks or beach walkovers where you can.
  • Be safety aware and observe the beach flag warning system.
  • Be considerate of others and respect private property.

The following items are not allowed on the beach:

  • Glass
  • Pets
  • Fires
  • Litter
  • Overnight camping
  • Fireworks
  • Loud music
  • Vehicles
  • Metal shovels or excessive digging

Preserving and protecting Alabama’s coastline is the responsibility of us all. Please do your part to keep our beautiful beaches clean and healthy.
