While Gulf Shores and Orange Beach don’t allow pets on the beach, you can take Fido for a swim at Fort Morgan and Dauphin Island beaches. Before you and your pet hit the beach, remember these tips to make it a happy and healthy day:

  • Pets at the BeachKnow the leash law where you’re going and obey the rules.
  • If you are in an off-leash area, make sure your pet will obey your verbal commands. Even the best-behaved dog can become distracted when other animals are present.
  • Bring a bag or bags and a pooper scooper. You know it’s going to happen and you need to be prepared. Don’t bury the dog waste in the sand.
  • Bring water for your pet. You don’t want them drinking a lot of salt water, so be sure they are slaking their thirst with fresh water. Many pet stores have canteens and collapsible bowls especially made for travel.
