Do you ever wonder what you can do to help protect Alabama’s beautiful coastal environment? The Alabama Coastal Foundation is a good place to start. The foundation’s mission is to improve and protect Alabama’s coastal environment through cooperation, education and participation.

Economic growth in Coastal Alabama can have an impact on the environment. The ACF, by encouraging responsible citizen actions and offering opportunities to individuals, works to create a healthy balance between preserving the environment and the coastal way of life. ACF’s reliable, well-researched data advocates community action and promotes public dialogue.

The ACF is instrumental in developing and managing the Alabama Oyster Shell Recycling Program. The program collects oyster shells from participating restaurants and returns them to the Alabama waters. The recycled shells help more oysters grow, provide habitat, limit erosion and improve water quality.
