You’re on the beach. The sun is high in the sky. You just finished the last sip of your cold, canned beverage of choice. What’s your next move? Well, we all know that if you’re one of the cool kids, you’ll recycle that bad boy in one of the recycling bins located along that sugar white sand.
Here are just a few reasons why:

When you recycle and use materials more than once, you conserve valuable natural resources and energy. You save the materials, as well as energy needed to make a new product. The environment will thank you!
- Recycling prevents waste from going into the ocean.
It’s been proven that in communities where a strong recycling culture is present, there is less litter and less waste entering the ocean. Keeping the ocean cleaner helps protect the creatures, vegetation and amazingly diverse, complex ecosystems within it. Recycling can also protect animals from ingesting or becoming entangled in waste like plastic. Did you know that the ocean makes up 99 percent of the space with the ability to sustain life? Let’s take care of it.
- Recycling makes for a cleaner beach.
A culture of recycling also makes for cleaner coastline. Imagine approaching a beach full of trash… so long relaxing vacation . . . hello, gross. Wildlife and humans are all better off when can simply enjoy the beautiful beach and leave only footprints.
- Recycling is contagious!
When others see you recycle, they are much more likely to do the same — or at least be less likely to toss their trash on the sand. Thank you for helping us create a clean, respectful culture in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
