The sunny shores of the Alabama Gulf Coast beckon you with their siren song of crashing waves and seagull cries. In your haste to enjoy all that our beautiful beaches have to offer, take a few moments to double check that you have packed a few essentials:

Sunscreen

Even if it’s supposed to be a cloudy day, the sun can still damage skin. Apply sunscreen before you head out, and reapply it throughout the day.

Hat/Sunglasses

Wearing a hat and/or sunglasses will protect your eyes, your face and the top of your head. Covering these vulnerable areas is important for your health.

Towels

Pack plenty of beach towels. Plan for all the uses, such as a mat while soaking up sunshine, drying off, as a cover-up or pillow, etc.

Cooler

A cooler is a must when spending a long day at the beach. Pack your favorite food and cold beverages to keep you hydrated. Bring refillable water bottles to avoid plastic waste.

Gear

Bring along an umbrella or canopy to provide shade, and a lightweight beach chair for extra comfort.

Beach Toys

Keep the kids entertained with beach toys. Alabama beaches are perfect for building sand castles!

Trash Bag

A trash bag ensures that you are doing your part to keep the beach clean by picking up and carrying out any trash you may have.

Wagon

A wagon or beach cart is helpful for toting all of your supplies. Those with wheels specially designed for going through sand will make the trek to the shore much easier.

As always, be sure to follow the Leave Only Footprints guidelines so everyone can enjoy Alabama’s beaches for years to come.
