birds on shorelineAre you a bird watcher? On your next trip to the beach, plan a day to see the sights and birds along the way. You don’t have to be a birding expert to enjoy time exploring the six loops of the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail in Baldwin and Mobile counties.

Using Gulf Shores and Orange Beach as the home base, you already have the advantage of watching the shore birds as they run back and forth with the waves. The sounds of the seagulls are music to the ears for the beach lover. Don’t forget to look up for the pelicans cruising in formation above the beach.

Off the beach, the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail and the trails of Gulf State Park are excellent locations for birding along paved trails and in one of the last remaining intact maritime forests.

Did you know you can attract birds to your own yard with native plants? Check out Audubon’s website and type in your zip code to find a list of plants native to your area and the birds that are attracted by them.
