Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 each year. Recognized around the world, this day honors the environmental diversity of our planet while also sharing ways of protecting it.

Leave Only Footprints is a movement dedicated to keeping our beaches clean and protecting the vulnerable wildlife, so we want to mark Earth Day by sharing reasons to help the coastline this April.

Reduce Your Usage of Chemicals

Everything that dumps down your drain can make it to the gulf waters because all water is connected. Using non-toxic cleaning products, limiting use of fertilizer, and avoiding the use of pesticide are a few ways to limit the chemical waste that is impacting all of our waterways.

Replace Disposable with Reusable

Using reusable items such as water bottles, containers and bags helps reduce trash and plastic waste. Garbage is a large hazard for marine animals.

Clean Up Litter

Most can agree that littering is a major NO when it comes to visiting the beach. How about going the extra mile and cleaning up trash you may see along the shore or participating in a cleanup movement? Alabama Coastal Cleanup  is an annual event that offers an opportunity to return Alabama’s coastal waterways and beaches to pristine condition. You can always organize your own movement as well!

Respect the Beach and Wildlife

Avoid walking on vegetation, since plant roots hold together the fragile dunes. Keep a safe distance from wildlife and never feed them. The coastline is home to many creatures and it should remain a safe habitat for all.
