We’ve all seen those endless lists of what to take on your beach vacation. We’re going to be a little different and give you a list of what not to bring on your Alabama beach trip.

Each year, more than 7 million travelers visit our beautiful beaches. We want our beaches to stay the same for the next 7 million, the next after that, and so on. Our Leave Only Footprints program is all about our beaches and wildlife in Coastal Alabama, and we want you to be a part of it while you’re here. It’s a simple program to follow and makes an immense difference to our ecosystem.

One of the ways you can make a difference is by removing all of your beach gear each day by one hour after sunset. It’s that simple!

Whether you’re on a day trip to the beach or are staying for a month, following the beach regulations has a huge impact.

Now, about that list of what not to bring on your trip to the beach:

  • Glass containers are not allowed on any beaches. Bring plastic and paper for your beach goodies and, of course, dispose of those items properly.
  • Metal shovels move too much sand and are not allowed. You can bring a small plastic shovel for building sandcastles, but excessive digging is not permitted. If you do dig a hole or trench, it must be filled in before you leave.
  • Pets are sweet and we love ours, too, but they are not allowed on the beach. Please leave them at home or in your pet-friendly vacation rental while you are relaxing on the beach.
  • Celebrations are fun! But the beach is not the place for fireworks or loud music. Leave your boombox and fireworks at home.
  • Fires of any kind are not permitted on the beach. Please enjoy your s’mores and campfire stories at home or your off-beach campsite.
  • That reminds us to also mention that camping isn’t allowed on the beach.

Enjoy your stay on our beautiful coast. Please be respectful, patient and kind while you are here. Chances are, you’ll be sharing the beach, restaurants and attractions with a good portion of the more than 7 million visitors we receive each year. We want everyone to have fun, so be sure to Leave Only Footprints.
