After a busy summer season, life at the beach slows down a bit. Even though the calendar changes to fall, summer-like weather is still around for a month or so. We think it’s a great time to be here and enjoy all the pleasures of coastal living.
There’s plenty to do, delicious food to eat and exciting adventures to be had during every season. But let’s look at just a few of the autumn possibilities to get you started.
- Go fishing. Whether you enjoy casting your line from the shore or taking a charter out on the blue water, fall is a great time to reel the fish in. Whichever option is your pleasure, be sure to carry an extra trash bag and pack out what you take in.
- Enjoy the beach and water. The Gulf of Mexico waters are still warm and inviting. Wear your sunglasses, and pack sunscreen, a beach umbrella for shade, and your favorite beach blanket or chair. Remember that the sun reflects off of our sugar-white sand and intensifies the chances for a sunburn. When you head to the beach, avoid walking on vegetation – use boardwalks and designated paths.
- Bike the Backcountry Trail. Bring your own bicycle or rent one so you can explore the 28 miles of paved trails in Gulf State Park. Pack water and snacks for the ride. Be sure to dispose of your trash in proper containers or bring it out with you.
- Birdwatch. The Alabama Coastal Birding Trail consists of six loops totaling 200 miles in Baldwin and Mobile counties. In your travels, stay on marked trails and avoid walking on vegetation or disturbing wildlife.
- Take a walk. A morning stroll on the beach is an excellent way to start the day. Or take a hike on any of the many walking/biking trails.
Enjoy your time on the Alabama Gulf Coast and please be sure to Leave Only Footprints when you depart.
