The holiday season becomes a special experience when you visit the Alabama Gulf Coast. Many travel here and make lasting memories with their family and friends.

It’s important to remember to practice the Leave Only Footprints guidelines when celebrating on our beaches. These guidelines are based on the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace and have provided a list of ways to keep Gulf Shores and Orange Beach squeaky clean.

Let’s take a few steps to take when visiting Coastal Alabama.

  • Avoid walking on any vegetation. The dunes are extremely fragile.
  • Watch your step and steer away from bird nesting areas. Nests may be camouflaged and located in the ground, so keep a careful eye out while walking.
  • Do not litter. All trash should be properly disposed of. There are trash and recycling bins on the beaches to make it easy.
  • Refill all holes. Holes can be hazardous for wildlife and people. If you are playing in holes, keep them small and be very careful because falling sand can be dangerous.

Following just a few guidelines, known as Leave Only Footprints, it allows not only you to enjoy your time here, but many others – including future generations.

Have a happy and “clean” holiday along the Alabama Gulf Coast!
