Chances are, your vacation rental has a wooden path just for this purpose. That iconic boardwalk is more than an easy way to get to the beach. It’s also the protector of the beach dunes.
The beach dunes along our sandy shores provide habitat for the diverse wildlife of the area. They also provide protection for the homes and businesses along the beachfront. The roots of beautiful sea oats, sea grasses and other vegetation hold the sand dunes together. Just a few steps into the dunes can damage those fragile roots and the sand could literally be “gone with the wind.” That’s where the boardwalks come in. Look for them all along the beachfront in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
