No Holes

Millions of travelers head to the Alabama Gulf Coast every summer. The clean, bright beaches are a must on bucket lists. The endless activities and fun go hand in hand with following the guidelines for safety and preservation.

One of the main steps many can take to help protect our island is avoiding digging holes. Holes are a hazard for wildlife and people. Below are a few reasons why it’s essential to refill holes.

  • They create a tripping hazard that could result in injury.
  • An animal could get trapped.
  • Wet sand eventually dries out and crumbles. When sand or holes collapse, this could be injurious or even fatal for anyone or anything that gets trapped underneath.
  • Holes make an uneven terrain, preventing lifeguards from quickly getting where they need to be.

To keep the beaches safe for everyone, it is best to avoid digging holes. If you come across a hole, please help by filling it in.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our Gulf Coast beautiful and safe for many generations to enjoy.
