Summer is in full swing, and it’s time to get your beach on! Before you head out for fun in the sun, make sure you have these essentials packed for your day at the beach. Since everything you bring must leave with you each day, these ideas will help you pack light and transport your beach gear to and from that beautiful sugar-white sand.

1) Your Seat on the Sand

If you’d like to bring beach chairs, consider those with a backpack component. This makes them easier to carry, especially after a full, fun day in the sun. Other easy options for relaxing on the sand include inflatable lounge chairs, ground hammocks, beach blankets, sheets and towels.

2) Sun Protection

Protection from the sun during your visit along the Gulf of Mexico is essential. Pack your sunscreen, sunglasses, hats and other coverage. Here’s some exciting news: The Gulf Shores public beaches now have complimentary sunscreen dispensers! And if you’re planning to bring your own shade, we encourage large umbrellas (stored in bags with handles) rather than a large canopy tent. The umbrellas are much easier to pack up at the end of each day.

3) Hydration Station

It’s crucial to stay hydrated during your time in the sun, so remember what your mom always told you and keep that water flowing! Bring a cooler with large wheels to keep your beverages icy and make transportation on the beach easier.

4) Sustainable, Insulated Drinkware

Rather than disposable water bottles, opt for insulated, reusable drinkware. Not only will you reduce waste, you’ll be happier with their ability to keep your drink cold and refreshing.

5) Wagons with Large, Sand-Ready Wheels

Finally – especially if you opted not to bring a cooler on wheels – we highly recommend bringing a wagon to transport all your gear to the beach. This may prove especially helpful if you have any sleepy little ones along at the end of the day.

Time to start packing! Thank you for visiting our beaches and leaving only footprints.
