January is a good time of year to plan your spring or summer vacation to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. As you choose your favorite hotel or vacation rental, we want you to be aware of our Leave Only Footprints program and what it means.
In 2016, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach adopted the Leave Only Footprints initiative to protect the beautiful white-sand beaches and keep them clean. Beach visitors are asked to remove all personal items from the beach by one hour after sunset each day. This is important for wildlife, such as sea turtles, as well as safe coastal enjoyment for our many visitors. All abandoned items will be removed and disposed of nightly.
- Avoid walking on beach vegetation. The roots of sea oats and other grasses hold the dunes together.
- When wandering, stay away from bird nesting areas. The nests may be on the ground or in the sand and hard to see.
- Please don’t litter. Pack up and take out all of your trash and dispose of it properly.
- If you dig a hole, fill it in. Even small holes can be hazardous to people and wildlife.
