child putting items in recycling bin at the beachLet’s talk recycling. We all know its important for the environment. But we don’t always know what we can recycle and how to do it, especially while on vacation, so the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach make it easy for you. 

On the beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, you’ll notice two cans, one for landfill refuse and one for recycling. Simply separate your trash from your recyclables and toss them into the proper can as you leave the beach.  

Items that can be recycled: 

  • Aluminum cans 
  • Cardboard 
  • Newspapers and magazines 
  • Office paper 
  • Paper products 
  • Phone books 
  • Plastic jugs 
  • Tin cans (must be rinsed) 

Trash for the landfill: 

  • Aerosol cans 
  • Aluminum foil 
  • Egg cartons 
  • Food or yard waste 
  • Glass 
  • Juice boxes/bags 
  • Paper/waxy milk cartons 
  • Pizza boxes 
  • Plastic bags

In Orange Beach, you can also take recycling to one of their dumpsters stationed around the city. Click through for a map of recycling dumpsters in Orange Beach. 

For other items, including electronics, you can take them to the recycling center in Gulf Shores at 160 W. 36th Avenue. The following items are allowed for drop off: 

  • Glass 
  • Aluminum  
  • Plastic No. 1, 2 3 
  • Office paper, newspapers, magazines 
  • Fluorescent light bulbs 
  • Metal 
  • Cardboard 
  • Electronics (televisions, microwaves, printers) 
  • Tin cans (must be rinsed) 
  • Packing styrofoam
