The Alabama Coastal Cleanup is just around the corner on Sept. 16. It’s the largest annual effort to keep those beautiful beaches clean, and you’re invited to help.

Check out this list to get an idea of what the Cleanup accomplishes:

83,000:            Number of volunteers who have participated since 1989

1.5 million:     Pounds of trash removed from Alabama coastline and waterways

639,361:          Cigarette butts removed

189,610:          Plastic bottles picked up

102,981:          Plastic bags collected

Boggy Point Boat Ramp in Orange Beach; Daphne May Day Park; Fairhope Public Pier; Five Rivers Delta Center (canoe and kayak only zone); Flora-Bama; Fort Morgan Peninsula Fire Station No. 1; Gulf Shores Public Beach; Gulf State Park Pavilion; Pirate’s Cove in Josephine; Mo’s Landing on Little Lagoon; Ono Island Boat Ramp; Cotton Bayou Public Beach in Orange Beach; Lillian Boat Ramp on Perdido Bay; Yupon Street access in Perdido Beach; Boat Launch on Mobile Bay Causeway; Fish River Marina on Weeks Bay; and Old Wolf Bay Lodge on Wolf Bay.

Just show up on Sept. 16 wearing sunscreen, a hat and comfortable shoes. Volunteers will give you gloves and a bag, and you can get started.
