So you are preparing to hit the beach. You know what to put in the beach bag, right? A beach towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat. Plenty of water and snacks. Maybe a good novel to read while you pass the time.

But do you know what does not belong at the beach? There are items you need to leave out of that beach bag due to local, state or federal laws or ordinances that prohibit them.

On the Alabama Gulf Coast, items that are prohibited include:

  • fireworks
  • glass containers
  • metal shovels
  • litter
  • tents or structures larger than 10 feet by 10 feet (not that those would fit in a beach bag)
  • fireworks
  • pets

Another thing to note: When heading to the public beach in Gulf Shores, don’t put any alcohol in the bag or ice chest. It’s prohibited as well.

Activities not allowed on our Alabama beaches include overnight camping, so no need to pack a sleeping bag. Bonfires and campfires are also prohibited, so leave the matches behind as well.

Pack the beach toys, ice chest, soft drinks and sun protection, and have a blast on our beautiful beaches! Just please make it wonderful and safe for all of our visitors and our natural resources.
