CONSERVATION: a careful preservation and protection of something.
The new year means New Year’s resolutions. Whether you have your resolutions set or not, we have a New Year’s goal we hope you’ll add: being environmentally friendly at the beach and in your daily life!
To be environmentally friendly at the beach, you can:
- Recycle the items that can be recycled.
- Throw away your trash. Bringing an extra bag for trash can be helpful in making sure the items that need to be thrown away are discarded properly.
- Bring and use reusable containers for your drinks and food/snacks.
- Respect the wildlife along the coast.
- Leave what you find during your walks along the beach. Sand, rocks and more help maintain the coastal eco-system, so leave natural items where you find them.
- Heed the beach signs that are posted along the coast. Rules and guidelines are there for a reason, so please do follow them.
- Stay off the sand dunes and instead use the walkways/boardwalks that are provided.
To be environmentally friendly at home, you can:
- Bring reusable bags to the grocery store.
- Turn off the water while brushing your teeth.
- Recycle all items that are approved in your area.
- Use energy-efficient light bulbs around the house.
- Use natural cleaning materials in refillable bottles.
- Switch to paperless billing.
- Ride your bike or walk to work to reduce your carbon footprint.
