CONSERVATION: a careful preservation and protection of something.

new year conservation goalsThe new year means New Year’s resolutions. Whether you have your resolutions set or not, we have a New Year’s goal we hope you’ll add: being environmentally friendly at the beach and in your daily life!

To be environmentally friendly at the beach, you can:

  • Recycle the items that can be recycled.
  • Throw away your trash. Bringing an extra bag for trash can be helpful in making sure the items that need to be thrown away are discarded properly.
  • Bring and use reusable containers for your drinks and food/snacks.
  • Respect the wildlife along the coast.
  • Leave what you find during your walks along the beach. Sand, rocks and more help maintain the coastal eco-system, so leave natural items where you find them.
  • Heed the beach signs that are posted along the coast. Rules and guidelines are there for a reason, so please do follow them.
  • Stay off the sand dunes and instead use the walkways/boardwalks that are provided.

To be environmentally friendly at home, you can:

  • Bring reusable bags to the grocery store.
  • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth.
  • Recycle all items that are approved in your area.
  • Use energy-efficient light bulbs around the house.
  • Use natural cleaning materials in refillable bottles.
  • Switch to paperless billing.
  • Ride your bike or walk to work to reduce your carbon footprint.
